Ducklings Retreat

Bear Interiors recently completed the refurbishment of a beautiful Lakeland holiday apartment called Ducklings Retreat (above). The setting is perfect: just outside Cartmel surrounded by rolling hills and the rugged Cumbrian coastline.

Our clients wanted us to create a contemporary intimate retreat for two with a Scandinavian twist. The open plan layout blends the living and dining areas using a soft light-reflecting pallette of colours.

Oak and leather furniture created a warm relaxing space, just what’s needed after a day’s sightseeing, but with the heavy-duty practicality needed in a holiday property.

The refurbishment has helped increase holiday reservations for the apartment – more photographs at the following link.

The multi-tasking living room

A home library can be a lovely addition to a room, if it’s well accommodated. Add to this the need for home-based working for several users in a ground-floor living area and you’ll see the need for carefully-planned storage and work spaces, making effective use of alcoves and flexible enough to be revealed and hidden at will. This hard-working room can now change from day into evening, and stay elegant and practical throughout.

A growing-up play room

With a growing family, this client needed storage planned into almost every room in the house. Their TV room / playroom was a high-traffic area which needed to encourage their children to relax, play and tidy up afterwards. Rooms for children have to grow with them, transforming gradually into teen dens and storing different toys, games and gadgets as they get older, while lending themselves to different decorating schemes. Here’s hoping this warm and cheery room doesn’t get a teenage goth colour scheme later, but it will last plenty long enough.

Open plan planning

A sleek, modern home is a dream for many of us, but creating a workable and elegant open-plan interior needs careful thought and planning. At the start of the build process of their new home, our clients asked us to create an overall design scheme for their open plan living space.

We spent time understanding how they liked to live, their need for workspace, and how we could maximize the setting the stunning full height windows created. Thoughtful built-in storage helps to define different spaces and keep order in this flowing, informal family home.
